ashion Show on the Neo-Argon Promenade: Much Ado About Average Fabrics
Neo-Argon's ModeSymbiosis promised spectacle, but this year's collections settled for solid, if unadventurous, materials and ideas.
Visitors to Neo-Argon's promenade recently could hardly miss the annual ModeSymbiosis, drawing a crowd as eclectic as the fashions-gaseous style enthusiasts and well-accessorized jellies mixed freely to witness the latest from the Interstellar Committee for Temporal Textiles.
Originality, however, was in short supply this year. Though holographic tunics and shape-shifting cloaks are wearable for both humans and cephalopods, the materials felt far from groundbreaking. The color palettes seemed recycled from last stardate, and the much-hyped intelligent weave patterns only partially delivered: one skirt muttered philosophical one-liners, but it got stuck in existential clichés.
Yet those who value practicality over spectacle may leave content. Atmosphere-detecting boots now work reliably-though the utilitarian design betrays little artistry. The ever-present rainbow poncho remains as functional as ever (one size fits all, including gaseous lifeforms), but delivers scant surprise.
All told, those seeking eccentric statements of identity will need to look elsewhere. For passably crafted, safe interstellar garb, this ModeSymbiosis meets minimal expectations.
