rilliant and Tempestuous: Talking with Comet Halitus on the Pelorische Shard Fringe
On the mosaic chaos of the Pelorische Shard Fringe, we meet Halitus – a conscious comet with a predilection for bold detours and a generous dose of cosmic wit. As merchant ships orbit and patrols scour the neon-lined streets, Halitus immerses himself in the spectacle and shares his unique perspective on life amid crumbling temple platforms, neon glimmers and bureaucratic snares.
Carvax-7Q What draws a conscious comet like you to this riot of color at the edge of the Vorridian Kraken Basin?
Halitus Ah, mostly curiosity – that, and the irresistible urge to shake my tail among all these drifting city plateaus. The Shard Fringe has a special charm... those glowing, winding markets, those nervous pirate ships. I really feel every vibration of the universe here.
Carvax-7Q Aren’t you worried about being hit by all the drifting debris?
Halitus Worried? Oh, no – look, collisions are just part of my kind. I’m literally made of fragments. Honestly, most comet injuries are purely cosmetic. In fact, a new scar adds character.
Carvax-7Q You come from the outer Nibonic Cloud Cluster, right? What do you miss most from there?
Halitus Hmm... the crystalline silence, I think. No merchants tripping over their own tentacles, no blaring signal lights. Just drifting among icy grains and a few aimless neutrons. Things get busy in my head here, fast.
Carvax-7Q How does it feel to be observed by all these different types here – from humans to transparent jellyfish administrators?
Halitus Oh, that took some getting used to. I was used to being just a vague streak in the sky, but now kids want selfies, smugglers sneakily try to chip bits off my tail, and recently some beady-eyed inspector fined me for 'illegal comet dust dispersion.' *laughs*
Carvax-7Q Wait, fines for comet dust? Seriously?
Halitus Yes, the Turkatorium keeps inventing new ones. 'Damage to eternite glass by subatomic sediment.' Especially after I accidentally dusted the Stardust Casino’s facade.
Carvax-7Q Any friends here, or are you more of a loner?
Halitus Uh... well, friends are tricky when you’re 20 kilometers long and occasionally swell up without warning. But I do enjoy instant micro-asteroid bowling with the local merchant ships, so I think they tolerate me.
Carvax-7Q Are there things you miss about being completely unconscious?
Halitus Sometimes, especially when I’m trailed by cleaning drones or melancholia hits like a solar flare. But consciousness also means dancing with gravity fields and swirling with neon lights across my surface. It’s hard not to be enchanted.
Carvax-7Q What do you do to relax in this chaos?
Halitus I’ll swing by some gas pockets near the Vorridian Basin, or watch robots hopelessly attempt to restore a temple plaza from a height gauge. Very soothing. Unless a trading-embryo brawl erupts, of course.
Carvax-7Q Speaking of brawls – how do you handle conflict?
Halitus I mostly try to veer around trouble, quite literally. My maneuvers are rarely understood, but sometimes earn respect from resilient spinner-planetoids. In the end, everything dissolves into interstellar dust.
Carvax-7Q Your comet tail has become a hit on holosocial networks. Do you enjoy being a bit famous?
Halitus Oh, it’s fantastic! *laughs broadly* Too bad some followers expect me to bless their wedding by zooming overhead. Sometimes I accidentally knock a broadcast mast out of orbit – I always say: follow me at your own risk!
Carvax-7Q What’s the most fun you’ve had at the Shard Fringe so far?
Halitus Absolutely the day neon rain fell as I swooped through a market hall. No one panicked, they just cheerfully collected the glowing droplets as souvenirs.
Carvax-7Q And the toughest?
Halitus My allergy to bureaucracy. All those forms patrols want to shove into my core... I mean, how do you even fill out paperwork without hands?
Carvax-7Q Where do you see yourself in, uh, a thousand orbits?
Halitus Whew, well, if I haven’t been swallowed by a commercial planetoid: still drifting, sparkling, and sometimes harassed by little planets with big dreams. Gravity’s full of surprises.
Carvax-7Q Last question, Halitus – if you could give one piece of advice to the residents of the Pelorische Shard Fringe, what would it be?
Halitus Don’t lock yourself into your trajectory. Make a sharp turn, drift crooked, reflect the unexpected. And if you ever find a piece of comet tail in your breakfast: that’s luck, or at least a great story for later.
Carvax-7Q Beautifully said! Thanks, Halitus – this was boundlessly inspiring.
Halitus The pleasure was mutual – and if you ever need a lift toward the outer rim, just whistle in C-note!
